Blue Jays Secure Austin Voth in Minor League Agreement

The Toronto Blue Jays have officially signed Austin Voth to a minor league contract following his release from the Chicago White Sox. Although the Blue Jays did not make a public announcement, Voth recently took the mound for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, pitching three innings in his debut.
During the game, Voth recorded two strikeouts without issuing any walks, although he surrendered two solo home runs. The 33-year-old right-handed pitcher is represented by The·Team agency and previously played in Japan for the Chiba Lotte Marines in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
Austin Voth’s Career Overview
Voth has accumulated over five years of major league service time since making his MLB debut in 2018. He was a fifth-round pick in the draft and has experienced seven seasons in the major leagues. Throughout his career, Voth has pitched 360.1 innings, maintaining a 4.70 earned run average (ERA), a strikeout rate of 22.1%, and a walk rate of 8.3%. These statistics are generally considered league-average.
Recent Performance and Statistics
- 2025 Season (Japan): 125 innings, 3.96 ERA, lower strikeout rates, good command.
- Recent MLB Performance: 4.29 ERA across the past three seasons.
- 2024 Season (Seattle Mariners): 61 innings pitched, 3.69 ERA, 25% strikeout rate, walk rate above 7%.
Although Voth has primarily served as a reliever in the recent past, he has more experience as a starter. All 22 of his last-year appearances in Japan were as a starting pitcher. In his game with the Bisons, he pitched for just three innings, likely due to limited action with the White Sox’s training camp.
Blue Jays’ Need for Depth
The Blue Jays are currently facing injuries to key pitchers, including Shane Bieber, Trey Yesavage, and José Berríos. Given these circumstances, Voth’s signing looks to provide the necessary starting depth for the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate as they evaluate his potential for a spot in the major league rotation.
