Attorney Clears Late LSU WR Kyren Lacy of Causing Fatal Accident

Kyren Lacy, a former wide receiver for LSU, was recently cleared of causing a fatal accident that occurred on December 17, 2024, in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. Lacy’s attorney, Matt Ory, emphasized that surveillance footage from the incident showed Lacy’s vehicle was well behind the collision at the time of impact. This crucial detail may significantly alter the narrative surrounding Lacy’s involvement.

Details Surrounding the Incident

During a recent statement to HTV10, Ory provided evidence that Lacy had passed several cars prior to the accident. According to Ory, Lacy was in his lane of travel and positioned 92.3 yards from the impact zone when the crash occurred. He stated, “He’s 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact. Key word, behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted.”

  • Incident Date: December 17, 2024
  • Location: Lafourche Parish, Louisiana
  • Victim: Herman Hall, 78, who later died in the hospital

Accident Description

Police previously alleged that Lacy attempted to pass slower vehicles by crossing a center line. This maneuver reportedly caused a pickup truck to swerve and brake, leading to a head-on collision with another vehicle occupied by Hall. The surveillance video presents an SUV colliding with another vehicle, with Lacy’s car appearing nearly four seconds later, slowing down and going around the accident.

Legal Proceedings and Arrest

Despite being cleared of causing the accident, Lacy faced serious charges prior to his death. He was indicted for negligent homicide, a felony hit-and-run resulting in death, and reckless operation of a vehicle. In January, Lacy surrendered to police following the charges.

The situation escalated on April 12, two days before Lacy’s grand jury appearance. Authorities pursued him in Spring, Texas, where he crashed. When officers approached the vehicle, they discovered he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kyren Lacy’s Football Career

Hailing from Thibodaux, Louisiana, Lacy had a notable collegiate career. He caught 58 passes for 866 yards and shared the Southeastern Conference lead with nine touchdown receptions in the 2024 season. Over his college career, he recorded a total of 162 catches for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns in 64 games across Louisiana and LSU.

Despite his talent and being viewed as a potential NFL prospect, Lacy was not included in the list of players invited to the NFL Scouting Combine released in mid-February, shortly after his arrest.
