Why Did Browns’ RB Quinshon Judkins Miss Season’s Start?

The Cleveland Browns have faced challenges in their offense this season. While much attention has focused on their quarterback situation, rookie running back Quinshon Judkins has emerged as a key player in the backfield.

Quinshon Judkins Misses Season Start

Selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Judkins was expected to continue his momentum into training camp. However, his absence during August raised concerns about his status. Many speculated about possible injuries or performance issues, but the reality was different.

Off-Field Issues Delay Judkins

In July, Judkins was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on misdemeanor domestic violence and battery charges related to an incident reported earlier that month. This incident gained media attention, prompting the Browns and the NFL to investigate the situation further.

By mid-August, Florida prosecutors decided to drop the case due to conflicting accounts and insufficient evidence for formal charges. Despite this, Judkins missed significant time working with his team, delaying his development and adjustment to the NFL.

Contract Delays Add to Challenges

Compounding his situation, negotiations over Judkins’ rookie contract extended longer than expected. Reports indicated disagreements over guaranteed money caused the delay. Ultimately, he signed his contract on September 6, just one week before the start of the season.

Due to missing training camp and preseason, Judkins faced a steep learning curve. His lack of time with coaches and teammates hindered his preparation for the season.

Judkins Makes a Strong Comeback

Judkins made his long-awaited debut in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens. Since then, he has shown why the Browns were excited to draft him. In his first three games, he has recorded 49 carries for 237 yards and two touchdowns. Notably, he delivered a standout performance in Week 4, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown against the Detroit Lions.

Judkins’ transformation from being sidelined to emerging as a pivotal offensive player has thrilled fans. His ability to adapt quickly has now positioned him as an important asset for the team.

Looking Ahead

The upcoming Week 5 match against the Minnesota Vikings in London represents another crucial test for Judkins. Scheduled to kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET, this international game will be a significant opportunity for him to showcase his talent on a global stage.
