Police Incident Shuts Down Major Motorway, Sparking Rush Hour Traffic Chaos

A significant police incident has led to the closure of a major section of the M61 motorway this morning. The southbound carriageway is shut between junction 5 for Westhoughton and junction 4. Additionally, traffic is halted on the northbound side between these two junctions.

- At the M61 J5/A58 roundabout, take the third exit and head eastbound on the A58.
- At the A58/A6 Chequerbent roundabout, take the first exit onto the A6 southbound.
- At the A6/Watergate Lane roundabout, take the first exit towards the M61 link road.
- At Watergate Lane/M61 J4 roundabout, take the third exit to re-enter the M61 southbound.
