Matt Dunstone has made an impressive debut at the men’s World Curling Championship, leading Team Canada to a successful start. In the opening round held in Ogden, Utah, Dunstone, the Winnipeg skip, guided his team to a solid 5-2 victory over South Korea. Later that day, they secured a decisive 9-2 win against Italy.

Dunstone expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “Awesome day. To get off the ice early is even better.” This championship marks Dunstone’s first time representing Canada at the senior level after winning the Brier in St. John’s earlier this year.
In the match against South Korea, Dunstone’s team went ahead 4-2 after scoring two points in the eighth end. They sealed the game with a steal in the ninth end. The match against Italy showcased their dominance, as Canada stole seven points before Italy conceded after six ends.
A Long Wait for Canada
Canada has not secured a men’s world curling title since 2017. Team member Ryan Harnden noted the challenges they faced, mentioning the ice’s tricky conditions during the South Korea match. Harnden, who is participating in his third world championship, highlighted the team’s patience in adapting to the varying ice speeds.
