Centurion Executes Option Agreement for Limestone Gold Project Near Rosebel Mine

Centurion Minerals Ltd., based in Vancouver, has announced a significant development in the gold mining sector. The company executed an Option to Purchase Agreement for the Limestone gold project in Suriname, strategically located near the prominent Rosebel and Saramacca mines operated by Zijin Mining Group.

Details of the Limestone Gold Project

The Limestone gold project covers approximately 3,548 hectares. It is situated in a historically rich gold-producing area, known for both active and small-scale mining operations. This region is recognized for its potential for new gold discoveries, partly due to historic small-scale mining indicating the presence of gold within the concession.

Geographical Context

Located less than four hours from Paramaribo, Suriname’s capital, the Limestone project benefits from proximity to key mining operations. The site is near the Saramacca River, adding logistical advantages for exploration activities.

Significance of the Region

Suriname’s mineral deposits are predominantly part of the Paleoproterozoic Marowijne Greenstone Belt. This belt is noted for orogenic gold systems formed during the Trans-Amazonian orogeny. The Rosebel mine, located close to Limestone, reportedly hosts over 6 million ounces of gold, demonstrating the area’s economic viability.

  • Rosebel Gold Mine: >6 million ounces of gold with 1.04 g/t grade.
  • Exploration potential with various active mining companies.
  • Significant artisanal mining presence within the Limestone area.

Financial Aspects of the Agreement

Centurion’s Option to Purchase Agreement spans six years, providing a framework for earning a 100% interest in the project. Total payments include $500,000 in cash and an additional $500,000 allocated for exploration.

Payment Structure

Year Cash Payment (USD) Exploration Investment (USD)
1 30,000 50,000
2 50,000 75,000
3 50,000 75,000
4 60,000 100,000
5 70,000 100,000
6 200,000 100,000

The agreement also includes a 2% net smelter royalty (NSR). Centurion retains the option to purchase the NSR from the optionors for $1 million per 1%.

Exploration Plans

Centurion plans to leverage an experienced exploration team based in Paramaribo, led by Dr. Dennis LaPoint. With over 26 years of experience, Dr. LaPoint has a proven track record in the region, notably in the discovery of the Merian Mine.

Future Objectives

The company is focused on expanding its portfolio by seeking additional gold concessions in Suriname. It has recently discontinued its interest in the Casa Berardi Property to concentrate resources on opportunities in the Suriname region.

As Centurion advances its plans for the Limestone gold project, the potential for significant developments in this promising area appears strong, with both the geological and economic factors favoring new explorations.
