EA Ends Support for Controversial Battlefield Game

Electronic Arts (EA) is set to make a significant change in the Battlefield franchise this summer. The publisher will discontinue support for the less popular title, Battlefield Hardline, on console platforms. This decision reflects the game’s mixed reception since its launch in March 2015.
End of Support for Battlefield Hardline on Consoles
Battlefield Hardline was developed by Visceral Games and introduced a new theme of cops versus robbers, departing from the military-centric gameplay of earlier installments. While some players appreciated this shift, many criticized the game during its initial release.
According to the official Battlefield Comms on social media, Battlefield Hardline will be taken down from digital storefronts on May 22, 2024. Players will no longer be able to purchase the game or any extra content, including downloadable content (DLC).
Timeline of Changes
- May 22, 2024: Removal of Battlefield Hardline from Xbox One and PlayStation 4 digital stores.
- June 22, 2024: Online services for Battlefield Hardline on these platforms will be discontinued.
Despite the removal from consoles, players who already own Battlefield Hardline will still have access to its single-player mode. However, the online multiplayer features will become unavailable after the end of support.
Availability on PC
Good news remains for PC gamers. Battlefield Hardline will continue to be available for purchase and its servers will remain operational on this platform. The recent announcements from Battlefield Comms emphasize that PC players will not be affected by these changes.
The decision to end support for Battlefield Hardline on consoles comes as the gaming industry moves further away from the PS4 and Xbox One generation.
As the community watches, it will be interesting to see how long EA maintains support for the PC version of Battlefield Hardline.
