Extremadura News Highlights

As Extremadura approaches three months since its recent elections, political negotiations continue between the PP (Partido Popular) and Vox. Oscar Fernández, Vox’s spokesperson, indicates that a coalition agreement is achievable.

Manuel Naharro, the President of the Assembly, stated he would wait for a consensus between the two parties before calling an investiture session. Meanwhile, the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party) and Unidas por Extremadura have voiced concerns about the lack of oversight in the Assembly, describing the situation as a sign of “low democratic quality.”

Protests by the Rice Sector

In a related development, rice producers in Badajoz took to the streets to protest declining prices. They attribute their struggles to the influx of rice imports from Southeast Asia and Latin America, which, they claim, face fewer phytosanitary restrictions.
