Swoboda Seeks Break, Says “It’s Exhausting”

Ewa Swoboda, a prominent Polish sprinter, recently shared her thoughts on the pressure of public expectations. She expressed her feelings about being labeled an eccentric and the resulting stress of competing at high-level events, particularly during the upcoming World Indoor Championships in Toruń.
Upcoming Competition in Toruń
Swoboda is preparing for the 60-meter dash at the World Indoor Championships, which will take place on an exciting Saturday. The women’s 60-meter heats will commence at 11:05 AM, and Swoboda will compete in the final heat at 11:47 AM. The semifinals are scheduled for the evening session at 20:14, followed by the final race at 21:20.
Past Achievements and Current Form
- In 2024, Swoboda won a silver medal at the Indoor World Championships in Birmingham.
- She set her personal best of 6.98 seconds in the semifinals, just 0.06 seconds off the world record.
- In the final, she clocked 7.00 seconds.
As she gears up for the Championships, the athlete revealed a mix of excitement and stress, particularly before the call room, where athletes gather shortly before their events. “I am a little nervous, but I feel more excitement,” she said.
Training and Ambitions
Swoboda has been training rigorously with her coach, Iwona Krupa, leading up to the championships. Both are optimistic about her potential to break the seven-second barrier. “My training has been extensive, and I believe I can run very fast here,” Swoboda noted.
Currently, her fastest time this season is 7.07 seconds, ranking twelfth in the world. However, she acknowledged the fierce competition, indicating that times below seven seconds will likely be required for medal contention.
Future Aspirations
Beyond her immediate goals, Swoboda hinted at aspirations in other events, particularly long jump. She has an interest in attempting this discipline after breaking the Polish record in the 100 meters, which remains a long-term target. “I want to ensure I don’t look back one day and regret not trying,” she remarked.
Public Perception and Personal Reflections
Despite the accolades, Swoboda admitted that the media’s focus on her personality can be exhausting. “I get tired of being labeled. If people want to discuss my tattoos or nails, that’s fine with me,” she stated, emphasizing her desire to enjoy life and pursue her passion for athletics.
As the World Indoor Championships approach, Swoboda is ready to showcase her hard work and determination on a global stage, embracing both the challenges and the thrill of competition.
