Peter Tobin’s Bathgate Home: Site of Teenager’s Tragic Burial

In 1991, teenager Vicky Hamilton disappeared from a bus stop in Bathgate, Scotland. She was just 15 when she vanished after visiting her sister in Livingston. Vicky was on her way to her mother’s home in Stirlingshire, but despite extensive searches and family appeals, no sign of her was found.
Peter Tobin: The Dark Secrets of Bathgate
At that time, serial killer Peter Tobin resided in a seemingly ordinary house on Robertson Avenue in Bathgate. Unknown to local authorities, Tobin was a violent sex offender who had recently moved into the area with his wife and infant son. It was in this location that he murdered Vicky Hamilton, burying her body in the garden.
Disappearance and Investigation
After Vicky’s disappearance, Tobin relocated to Kent through a mutual exchange scheme, just six weeks later. A neighbor had observed him digging a sizable hole in the garden, which Tobin claimed was intended for his son’s sandpit. This suspicious behavior went unnoticed in the broader investigation into Vicky’s case.
Subsequent Crimes and Arrest
Years later, in 2006, Tobin raped and killed 23-year-old Angelika Kluk, hiding her body under the floor of St Patrick’s Church in Glasgow. Following his arrest, authorities began to re-evaluate the disappearance of Vicky Hamilton, particularly after Tobin’s previous connections to Bathgate were revealed.
Operation Anagram and Forensic Discoveries
- In June 2007, a raid was conducted at Tobin’s former home in Bathgate.
- Investigators discovered a knife with traces of Vicky’s DNA in the attic.
- A large rockery in the back garden was excavated, leading to significant findings.
Forensic expert Peter Faulding, who assisted with the excavation, noted the unusual size of the rockery. Using cadaver dogs, the team detected disturbances in the soil beneath it, which suggested Vicky had been buried there for several months before being moved.
Discovery of Remains
Subsequent searches uncovered Vicky Hamilton’s remains under a concrete patio in Kent, indicating that Tobin had dismembered her body. The investigation also revealed the remains of another victim, 18-year-old Dinah McNicol, buried at the same location.
Conclusion: Tobin’s Legacy of Violence
Peter Tobin was ultimately convicted for the murders of both Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicol. He passed away on October 8, 2022, at the age of 76, while hospitalized due to cancer. His ashes were never claimed and were scattered at sea, marking the end of a notorious criminal’s disturbing legacy.
