Max Verstappen Criticizes Red Bull’s 2026 Chinese Grand Prix Sprint Disaster

Max Verstappen expressed his disappointment following the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix Sprint, labeling the experience a “disaster.” The Red Bull driver faced considerable challenges during the 19-lap event, ultimately finishing in ninth place and out of the points.

Challenging Start for Verstappen

Starting from P8, Verstappen struggled significantly at the beginning of the race. He fell back towards the rear of the field after a poor launch from his RB22. Verstappen later attributed his struggles to a power issue similar to one experienced by teammate Liam Lawson at the previous race in Melbourne.

Mid-Race Recovery

Despite early setbacks, Verstappen managed to recover some positions. He took advantage of a late Safety Car, opting for soft Pirelli tyres. However, he still encountered difficulties with car balance and tire degradation, hindering his progress.

Verstappen’s Reflections

After the race, Verstappen stated, “I had no power,” highlighting the issues he faced. He struggled with his car’s handling, which affected his race performance. “Pretty much a disaster I would say,” he concluded.

Teammate’s Troubles

Teammate Isack Hadjar also experienced difficulties during the sprint. He collided with Kimi Antonelli on the opening lap, which resulted in Antonelli receiving a 10-second penalty. Despite sustaining damage, Hadjar attempted to continue racing but slipped to P15 at the finish.

Looking Ahead

  • Hadjar was disappointed with the race outcome.
  • He noted, “With damage, I couldn’t do anything.”
  • Hadjar commented on the need for improvements, stating, “There’s a few things to change, that’s for sure.”

Both Verstappen and Hadjar left the weekend with lessons learned and a determination to improve in future events, anticipating a challenging but necessary path forward in the upcoming races.
