Trio of Tractor Trailer Crashes Closes Highway Near Doe Hills, Eastern NL

Multiple tractor trailer accidents in Eastern Newfoundland have led to significant traffic disruptions. These incidents occurred on the Avalon Peninsula, particularly near Doe Hills.

Tractor Trailer Crashes Impact Highway Traffic

Three separate crashes were reported due to severe wind conditions on the highway. The first accident took place near Chance Cove around lunchtime but has since been resolved. However, two more incidents followed shortly thereafter.

Accidents and Ongoing Traffic Issues

  • The second crash occurred at Doe Hills, where a tractor trailer overturned, blocking all traffic.
  • Emergency services report that the driver has sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital in Clarenville.
  • Chief Jamie Budden of the Whitbourne Fire Department noted the severity of the wind, which has made rescue efforts challenging.
  • A third overturned truck was reported on the Manuels Access Road, causing further delays.

Weather Conditions Contributing to Crashes

Drivers in the area are dealing with poor visibility due to thick fog and high winds. Gusts have been recorded at speeds of approximately 100 km/h, exacerbating hazardous driving conditions.

Authorities have indicated that it could be several hours before the wreckage is cleared. The highway remains closed, and a detour is currently in place for travelers.
