Autopilot Allegedly Steers Cybertruck Toward Houston Bridge Edge, Says Driver

A Texas lawsuit has emerged against Tesla following an incident involving a Cybertruck and its Full-Self Driving (FSD) system. The claim underscores potential dangers associated with Tesla’s advanced driving technology.
Details of the Incident
The lawsuit was filed in Harris County Court, Houston, alleging that Justine Saint Amour was utilizing the FSD system in August 2025. At the time, she was driving on the 69 Eastex Freeway.
As the Cybertruck approached a Y-shaped junction near the Houston Metro 256 Eastex Park & Ride, the vehicle was expected to navigate right. Instead, it reportedly aimed straight for a concrete barrier. Saint Amour attempted to regain control moments before the impact but was unsuccessful.
Accident Consequences
The collision resulted in significant injuries for the driver, including:
- Two herniated discs in the lower back
- One herniated disc in the neck
- Sprained wrist tendons
- Neuropathy
Dashcam footage of the crash revealed the Cybertruck’s failure to negotiate the curve, leading directly to the barrier collision. A subsequent photograph showed extensive damage to the front of the vehicle, with shattered parts scattered across the highway.
Criticism of Tesla’s Technology
The lawsuit criticizes Tesla’s reliance on a camera-only system for its self-driving technology. This design choice, the plaintiff argues, contributed to the crash and poses a potential risk to users. The complaint asserts that implementing radar or LiDAR sensors might have prevented such incidents.
Attorney Bob Hilliard, representing Saint Amour, stated, “Tesla’s decisions made Justine’s accident inevitable.” He further condemned Elon Musk’s practices, describing him as “an aggressive and irresponsible salesman” who frequently makes perilous design choices.
