Indian Wells: Sabalenka Triumphs, Swiatek Exits, Zverev Joins Big Four

At the Indian Wells tournament, Alexander Zverev achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the fifth player to reach the semi-finals of all nine ATP Masters 1,000 tournaments. Zverev secured his spot in the last four with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win over French player Arthur Fils.

Zverev Joins Elite Company

This milestone allows Zverev to join an exclusive group that includes the so-called ‘Big Four’ in men’s tennis: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray. “It’s very special to be one of five players in history to ever do it,” Zverev remarked. He expressed pride in accomplishing this unique achievement.

Masters 1,000 Title Success

Zverev has claimed victory at five of the nine Masters 1,000 events but has yet to secure a Grand Slam title, despite making it to three major finals. In a bid for the Indian Wells trophy, the fourth seed will need to overcome a five-match losing streak against world number two Jannik Sinner.

Semi-Final Matches Overview

Jannik Sinner, the reigning Wimbledon champion, also advanced to the semi-finals with a swift 6-1, 6-2 victory over American Learner Tien. This semi-final marks an important attempt for Sinner to win at Indian Wells for the first time, as he seeks his first title of 2026 following earlier exits at the Australian Open and Qatar Open.

Other Semi-Finalists

The other men’s semi-final will feature world number one Carlos Alcaraz facing Daniil Medvedev. Alcaraz progressed by defeating Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4, while Medvedev eliminated British number one Jack Draper, winning 6-1, 7-5 to end Draper’s title defense.
