Toronto and GTA Brace for Incoming Snow under Special Weather Alert

As spring approaches, Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) are bracing for an incoming snow event. A special weather alert has been issued, indicating potential snowfall this Friday.

Snowfall Expected Across Toronto and GTA

Environment Canada has forecasted brief snowfall rates of 2 to 4 centimeters in Toronto from Friday morning through the afternoon. While total accumulation may not be substantial, rapid snowfall could create hazardous travel conditions.

Snow Accumulation Forecast

  • Total snowfall in Toronto is expected to reach 5 to 8 centimeters.
  • Other areas in the GTA, including Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa, and Whitby, may see 10 to 15 centimeters.
  • Heaviest snowfall is anticipated in regions such as the Oak Ridges Moraine.

Environment Canada also warns that as temperatures rise above freezing, snow is likely to mix with rain during the afternoon. This could further complicate travel conditions.

Temperature and Wind Conditions

On Friday, Toronto’s daytime high is forecasted at 3°C, feeling like -10°C due to wind chill. As temperatures drop to -2°C overnight, icy roads and sidewalks are a concern.

The Hamilton and Niagara Regions are expecting strong winds with gusts reaching 60 to 90 km/h late Friday. These winds may cause additional challenges for drivers and pedestrians.

Weekend Weather Outlook

  • Saturday: A mix of sun and cloud with a high of 2°C.
  • Sunday: Possible periods of snow or rain with temperatures reaching a high of 4°C.

Travelers in Toronto and surrounding areas should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions and exercise caution on the roads.
