GMB’s Kate Garraway Apologizes to Co-star Live, Requests ‘Take Over’

On March 12, 2026, Kate Garraway and Paul Brand co-hosted an episode of Good Morning Britain (GMB). The show took an unexpected turn when Garraway experienced a coughing fit during a live segment with operatic pop singer Russell Watson. Watson was present to discuss his charity work and efforts to keep the Animals in Distress sanctuary open.

During the live broadcast, Garraway began speaking to Watson about his charity activities. As she tried to formulate her question, she abruptly began coughing. In a candid moment, she requested, “Sorry, you’re going to have to take over. Take over Paul and save the day.” Brand promptly stepped in to continue the segment, allowing Garraway a moment to recover.

Previous Incident on GMB
This incident was not the only disruption for GMB. Earlier in the week on March 9, the show faced chaos when a fire alarm caused a temporary evacuation of the studio. For the first time since recent budget cuts, GMB was scheduled to run from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. However, the team had to leave the set due to an unscheduled alarm.
During that episode, co-host Susanna Reid informed viewers of the alarm ringing in her ear. Instead of returning to the GMB studio, the network aired This Morning 20 minutes ahead of schedule. A spokesperson for GMB later apologized for the unexpected interruption.
Good Morning Britain is broadcast weekdays at 6 a.m. on ITV1 and ITVX, continuing to deliver the latest updates on news, entertainment, and more.
