Stephen Robinson Leaves St Mirren to Manage Aberdeen

Stephen Robinson has officially taken the role of head coach at Aberdeen after leaving St Mirren. The experienced manager secured a contract with the Dons that extends until the summer of 2029, along with bringing his assistant Brian Kerr.

Robinson’s Track Record and Vision

Dave Cormack, chairman of Aberdeen, praised Robinson’s leadership qualities, noting his ability to achieve strong results even with limited resources. Cormack stated, “He has demonstrated he can consistently deliver strong results, punching well above the resources he’s had to work with.”

  • Contract Duration: Until summer 2029
  • Previous Tenure: St Mirren (February 2022 – present)
  • Achievements at St Mirren: League Cup Champion, three consecutive top-six finishes

Challenges Faced at St Mirren

Robinson’s departure comes during a challenging season for St Mirren, currently positioned 10th in the league and just above the relegation playoff zone. Despite recent successes, the club has struggled to find form this season.

Compensation and Interim Management

Aberdeen triggered a compensation clause to acquire Robinson, who had been under contract with St Mirren until 2028. John Needham, chairman of St Mirren, expressed sadness at Robinson’s departure, wishing him well following four successful years at the club.

In the interim, Craig McLeish, Jamie Langfield, and Allan McManus will manage St Mirren as they search for a new head coach.

Robinson’s Commitment to Aberdeen

Reflecting on his new position, Robinson emphasized the importance of establishing a strong team identity. He stated, “Aberdeen has a tremendous history and there’s no mistaking it is a huge club.” He aims to develop a competitive squad to finish the season strongly and calls for support from players, staff, and fans alike.

With Robinson at the helm, Aberdeen looks forward to a revitalized approach as they work to improve their standing in the Scottish Premiership.
