Snow Expected Friday, Followed by Strong Winds Alert Late

A weather alert is in effect for Friday evening and night, predicting strong winds and snow across the region. A low-pressure system is moving through, prompting a Yellow Alert for high winds, especially east of Lake Erie.

Wind Advisory and Warnings

In Genesee and Wyoming Counties, wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph. Southern Orleans County may experience similar gusts. High Wind Warnings are currently active in these areas.

Snow Forecast

Snow is expected to arrive on Friday morning. The precipitation will begin as wet snow and transition to rain by afternoon. This will lead to minimal accumulation—around an inch on grassy areas, while roadways will remain largely clear as temperatures rise towards 40 degrees.

Expected Accumulation and Conditions

  • Initial snow accumulation: About 1 inch on grass.
  • Roads likely to remain clear and safe for commuting.
  • Expected temperature: Rising towards 40 degrees.

Later on Friday night, lake-effect snow is anticipated to commence, particularly affecting Wyoming County and higher elevations of Livingston County. Some areas may see a few inches of accumulation overnight into Saturday morning.

Chilly Weekend Ahead

The weekend is expected to start off chilly with ongoing winds. However, conditions should improve in time for the St. Patrick’s Day parade, allowing outdoor festivities to proceed without concern for snow.

Looking Ahead

  • Sunday: Active weather with another storm bringing morning snow.
  • Temperature: Rising through the 40s, melting any snow that falls.
  • Monday: Possible highs in the 60s, followed by a swift temperature drop.
  • Rain and winds predicted, with potential thunderstorms.
  • Late Monday into Tuesday: Risk of strong winds and a winter blast.
