STM Public Information Event Postponed

The City of Pointe-Claire has announced the postponement of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) public information event due to severe weather conditions. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, the meeting aimed to discuss the redesign of the bus network. A new date for the event will be communicated soon, and residents are encouraged to stay updated via the Facebook event page.

Impact of Weather on Event Scheduling

As significant freezing rain is anticipated, residents are advised to limit non-essential travel. This highlights the importance of safety during adverse weather conditions.

Bus Network Redesign Overview

The STM is strategically preparing for the launch of the REM’s Anse-à-l’Orme branch, with a significant bus network redesign planned. This redesign will enhance service efficiency and improve connections to the REM.

  • Affecting over 80 bus routes.
  • Involving six boroughs and nine demerged cities.
  • Expected to launch alongside the REM in spring 2026.

New Route Features

As part of the transition, the STM has introduced a Route Simulator on its website. This tool helps users identify optimal bus routes based on their travel needs.

Connections to REM Stations

The redesigned routes will facilitate access to the following REM stations in the Pointe-Claire area:

  • Fairview–Pointe-Claire station: buses 72, 200, 202, 203, 208, 215, 221, 225, 229, 230, 470.
  • Des Sources station: buses 72, 204, 209, 216, 225, 230, and night service via bus 356.

Upcoming STM Information Activities

To assist residents with the bus network redesign, STM has planned multiple activities:

  • Information Booths:
    • Édouard-Montpetit station – February 17, 3 to 6 p.m.
    • Côte-Vertu station – February 18, 3 to 6 p.m.
    • Fairview Terminal – February 19, 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Community Gatherings:
    • Centre des loisirs de Saint-Laurent – March 9, 5 to 9 p.m.
    • Pointe-Claire City Hall – March 11, 5 to 9 p.m.
    • Centre de ressources communautaires de Côte-des-Neiges – March 18, 5 to 9 p.m.
    • Dollard-des-Ormeaux Civic Centre – March 19, 5 to 9 p.m.

The Benefits of the Redesign

The bus network redesign will notably improve transit access in Pointe-Claire with:

  • 56 new stops added in the area.
  • A 21% reduction in public transit trip lengths for a significant portion of riders.
  • A 140% increase in residents living within a 10-minute walk of frequent bus lines.

Navette Or Service

The Navette Or service, providing shared taxi options for residents aged 65 and older, will continue unchanged despite the redesign.

For more detailed information about the bus network redesign and remaining queries, residents can visit the STM section on the El-Balad website. As reminders and updates become available, the community is encouraged to engage and stay informed about transit changes.
