Shake Shack Opens at Calgary’s Chinook Centre

A well-known American burger chain is set to establish its presence in Calgary. Shake Shack has announced plans to open a new location at CF Chinook Centre, specifically on the upper level near the dining hall. This marks a significant expansion for the brand, as it will be their first venue in Alberta, distancing itself from its current seven locations in Ontario.

Opening Details of Shake Shack in Calgary

While the official opening date has yet to be confirmed, the fast-food chain anticipates the launch will occur sometime this spring. Billy Richmond, the Business Director for Shake Shack Canada, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion into Alberta. “Since launching in Canada in 2024, we have always had our sights set on Alberta, and we are excited for our upcoming launch,” he stated in a press release.

A Unique Dining Experience

Shake Shack aims to offer more than just burgers; it seeks to become a neighborhood hub focusing on delicious food and community connections. Richmond mentioned that they are eager to serve their signature menu items along with Calgary-exclusive dishes to cater to local tastes.

Artistic Touch to the Space

One of the distinctive features of the new location will be a mural created by local artist Irene Neyman. Neyman is celebrated for her bold use of color and simple, yet profound designs. Her artwork will reflect Calgary’s well-known landmarks, enhancing the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant.

  • Neyman shared that the mural aims to be playful and welcoming, capturing the essence of Calgary.
  • The art is designed to create a space where people feel connected and at home.

Shake Shack’s Legacy

Shake Shack began its journey as a humble hot dog cart in Madison Square Park, New York City, back in 2001. The brand opened its first official store in 2004 and has rapidly gained popularity across North America.

In recent years, Calgary has seen a surge in popularity for American restaurant chains, often resulting in long lines for new openings. For instance, the initial launch of Chick-fil-A attracted crowds where some customers waited over two hours. Similarly, last June, a resident from Cochrane camped out in line to become the first customer at the newly opened Krispy Kreme.

Calgary’s residents are in for a treat as Shake Shack prepares to bring its unique offerings to the city, combining quality food with a vibrant community atmosphere.
