Storm to Sweep Across Parts of Quebec

A winter storm is set to impact various regions of Quebec starting Sunday evening. This severe weather event will last into Monday or Tuesday morning, depending on the area affected.

Weather Forecast Details

The storm originates from a Colorado low system that is expected to move towards Quebec. Meteorologist Guillaume Perron from Environment Canada highlighted that snowfall will be the primary concern for many sectors.

Areas Expected to be Affected

  • The Saint Lawrence Valley, including Greater Montreal, will mainly see rain.
  • Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the Côte-Nord, and northern Quebec might receive 20 to 50 cm of snow.
  • Northwest Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Mauricie are forecasted to get 15 to 30 cm of snow.
  • In the Laurentians, snowfall is expected to be lighter, around 5 to 10 cm.

Impact of the Storm

The incoming snow may lead to blowing snow, significantly reducing visibility due to expected gusts of wind reaching up to 50 km/h. Environment Canada warns that travel could become difficult, with the potential for sudden visibility drops nearing zero at times. Road closures may also be necessary.

Transition to Ice Rain

As temperatures rise above freezing, the snow could change to rain, which raises the risk of freezing rain. This transition may leave behind 2 to 5 mm of ice on surfaces.

Post-Storm Temperature Changes

Following a brief warm-up, temperatures are anticipated to plummet, with lows of -20°C in some regions by Tuesday night into Wednesday.
