City Accelerates Tree Clean-Up Efforts After Windstorm

The City of Windsor is actively engaged in cleaning up after a recent windstorm that brought disruptive weather conditions. Between Friday and Monday, wind speeds reached between 90 km/h and 115 km/h, leading to significant damage across the city.

Impact of the Windstorm

The storm resulted in numerous downed trees, damaged traffic lights, and power outages. In total, the city received over 200 reports related to wind damage. Among these, more than 180 service calls were specifically concerning tree-related issues, with half classified as emergencies.

Emergency Response Efforts

  • Emergency calls prioritized first.
  • Focus on trees blocking roads and access to homes.
  • Address issues affecting public safety as a priority.

Yemi Adeyeye, Windsor’s Forester, confirmed that emergency situations took precedence. Crews were dispatched to handle fallen trees obstructing roadways and access to properties. “Trees that are blocking city right-of-ways, or have fallen on residents’ properties, have been our main focus,” Adeyeye stated.

Next Steps in Clean-Up Efforts

With the majority of emergency situations under control, the city is now turning its attention to non-emergency calls. Adeyeye mentioned that additional follow-up might be necessary for some situations, which could include stump trimming or complete tree removal in the future.

Parks Assessment

Many parks in the area also suffered damage. For example, Optimist Memorial Park is currently dealing with fallen limbs and trees, highlighting the ongoing work needed in these recreational spaces.

Community Engagement

Residents are encouraged to report any tree-related concerns by calling Windsor’s 311 center. Continuous communication will help the city address the aftermath of the storm efficiently.

As Windsor accelerates its tree clean-up efforts, the community’s cooperation is essential for a smooth recovery process.
