Listen to ‘Emotional Anchor’ from Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Series

Following their success with the song “My Sails Are Set,” which earned a Children’s and Family Emmy, songwriters Giona Ostinelli and Sonya Belousova are back with new music for Netflix’s second season of “One Piece.” Titled “One Piece: Into the Grand Line,” this season features the emotionally compelling song “Am I Enough (Tony Tony Chopper).”

Highlights of “Am I Enough (Tony Tony Chopper)”

Performed by singer Au/Ra, the song embodies the essence of the character Tony Tony Chopper. It poses poignant existential questions, with lyrics reflecting the character’s vulnerability:

  • “Tony Tony Tony Chopper/Heal what fell apart.”
  • “Am I enough?”

Despite the weighty questions, the song culminates in a triumphant declaration of self-acceptance: “Yes, I am!” Ostinelli and Belousova describe this piece as the season’s “emotional anchor,” highlighting its themes of identity and belonging.

The Musical Journey

The composers view “Am I Enough” as a metaphorical journey. It transitions from introspection to a powerful affirmation of self-worth. They emphasize that the song encapsulates Chopper’s emotional arc, serving as his anthem.

Ambitious Musical Landscape

Ostinelli and Belousova label “One Piece: Into the Grand Line” as their most ambitious project yet. The second season builds on the adventures of the main character, Monkey D. Luffy, while enriching the musical experience.

The soundtrack features:

  • A 90-piece orchestra
  • Five choirs
  • A big band
  • Various guest artists, including Au/Ra and the Hu

To enhance the musical richness, they incorporated unique instruments such as:

  • Nyckelharpa from Sweden
  • Tagelharpas from Italy and Estonia
  • African ngoni
  • Viking horns of various sizes

Expansive Soundtrack

The full soundtrack includes diverse compositions, featuring songs like “Pray to the Sun” and “Whisky Peak Saloon.” With its extensive nature, the soundtrack spans four CDs.

Creative Inspiration

Both composers draw endless inspiration from the “One Piece” universe. They describe the narrative as a quest for belonging and self-discovery. This artistic freedom allows them to craft a unique musical landscape that mirrors the show’s adventurous spirit.

Ostinelli and Belousova are excited to share their musical vision, ensuring that the sound remains as expansive and imaginative as the stories told within “One Piece.”
