Montreal Police Capture Canada’s Top Fugitive

Montreal Police successfully captured Canada’s most wanted fugitive, Bryan Fuentes Gramajo, on Wednesday. The arrest occurred at 2:40 a.m. in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough. Fuentes Gramajo, 24, is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting incident that took place in Toronto last July.
Details of the Arrest
Fuentes Gramajo was apprehended without incident as part of a coordinated effort by the SWAT team, which considered him dangerous. He is set to face charges of first-degree murder in Montreal before being transferred to Toronto. A court appearance is scheduled for Thursday in Montreal, followed by another on March 10 in Toronto.
Background of the Case
Fuentes Gramajo is linked to the shooting death of 28-year-old Kashif Jamal Bentley-Jean. This incident occurred at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre parking lot, creating a nationwide manhunt. In October 2025, he was named Canada’s most wanted fugitive by the Bolo Program, which alerts citizens about dangerous criminals.
Statement from Authorities
- Mélanie Dupont, head of Montreal’s major crimes unit, confirmed the circumstances of the arrest.
- Toronto Police Supt. Joe Matthews emphasized Fuentes Gramajo’s perceived threat level, indicating that his status as a fugitive was serious.
“You don’t make it to number one for stealing a car,” Matthews stated, highlighting the severity of the charges against him.
Related Suspects
Another suspect in the shooting, 20-year-old Bradley Lucate-Nicolas, was arrested in Laval, Quebec, the previous August and also faces first-degree murder charges. Authorities continue to search for a third suspect, 28-year-old Jimmy Prudent from Montreal.
As developments unfold, the Montreal police remain vigilant in addressing the threat posed by these individuals, ensuring public safety in the region.
