Johannes Klaebo Dominates Milan-Cortina, Wins All Six Cross-Country Ski Races

Johannes Klaebo has made headlines at the Milan-Cortina Olympics by winning the gold medal in the 50-kilometer classic cross-country ski race. The event took place on Saturday, showcasing his extraordinary talent. With this victory, Klaebo has achieved a remarkable feat by winning all six cross-country ski races in the Olympic program.
Klaebo’s Historic Win
At just 29 years old, this triumph marks Klaebo’s eleventh title over three Winter Olympic appearances in 2018, 2022, and 2026. He dominated the final race, finishing ahead of fellow Norwegians Martin Nyenget, who took silver, and Emil Iversen, who secured bronze. Canadian skiers Antoine Cyr and Thomas Stephen finished 11th and 17th, respectively.
The Race at Tesero
The race, described as a “marathon” on the Tesero track, saw Klaebo and his Norwegian teammates lead the pack for most of the competition. Iversen made a late push in the last four kilometers. However, Klaebo executed a decisive surge that left Nyenget behind, ultimately winning in a time of 2 hours and 7 minutes.
A Record-Breaking Performance
This achievement echoes Klaebo’s prior success at the World Championships in Trondheim, where he won six gold medals. Very few athletes have completed the Grand Slam at the Winter Olympics. Notable examples include American speed skater Eric Heiden in 1980 and Norwegian biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen in 2002.
Klaebo’s Place in Olympic History
- Klaebo’s six victories include four individual races and two team events.
- He has surpassed the record for the most Winter Olympic titles with eight medals.
- Klaebo is now the second most decorated Olympian, behind American swimmer Michael Phelps, who boasts 23 gold medals.
With the absence of his Russian rival Alexander Bolshunov, who was banned from competing, Klaebo has further cemented his status as one of the greatest cross-country skiers of all time. His dominance in the sport continues to impress fans and athletes alike.
