Middlesex Intersection Closes Amid Multi-Vehicle Crash in Dense Fog

Provincial police have closed an intersection in Middlesex County, Ontario, following a multi-vehicle crash. The collision occurred on Tuesday morning under dense fog conditions, causing significant visibility challenges for drivers.
Middlesex Intersection Closure Due to Crash
The incident took place at the crossroads of Ilderton Road and Adelaide Street North around 10 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that emergency personnel responded promptly to the three-vehicle crash. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by individuals involved were deemed non-life-threatening, according to OPP Constable Jeff Hare.
Impact of Fog on Visibility
The fog blanketing southern Ontario led to poor visibility, prompting multiple school bus cancellations across the region. Environment Canada meteorologist Mark Schuster documented the stagnant weather pattern that contributed to these conditions. “Very light winds combined with mild temperatures often lead to fog formation,” Schuster explained.
- School vehicle cancellations affected Middlesex, Oxford, and Elgin counties.
- The red zone south of Highway 401 was also impacted.
- Buses cancelled due to fog are expected to operate in the afternoon.
Weather Forecast and Safety Precautions
A post on social media urged drivers to ensure visibility by using their vehicle’s full headlight system in foggy conditions. “When the fog swallows the road, don’t disappear with it. Be bright, be visible, and be safe,” the OPP reminded the public.
Mark Schuster indicated that the fog was expected to dissipate several hours post-sunrise. Looking ahead, another weather system is anticipated, which may bring up to 25 millimeters of rain and a risk of freezing rain on Wednesday.
Schuster warned of slippery conditions particularly affecting pedestrians and drivers on untreated roads in the London area. As for temperatures, they will likely hover around seasonal averages, with a high of 5°C on Thursday, before dropping back to -2°C by Monday.
