Travelers Undeterred by Cuban Shortages
Louise Adams, a resident of Valleyfield, expressed her excitement at Montreal-Trudeau Airport before heading to Varadero. Along with her sister Josée, she noted that she was unbothered by the island’s difficulties, saying, “I’m not picky. I go mainly for the palm trees and the beach.”
Government Warnings
In a recent announcement, the Canadian government urged travelers to exercise caution when visiting Cuba. They pointed out significant shortages of electricity, fuel, food, water, and medication. Despite these warnings, many travelers demonstrated a calm demeanor, stating they were well aware of the situation.
Traveler Élizabeth Dubuc reaffirms this attitude, saying, “We are not difficult, so we can manage with less.” Alongside her friends, she seemed undeterred by any potential discomfort.
Hotel Closures and Travel Concerns

In light of the energy crisis, the Cuban government announced new emergency measures affecting education, labor, and transportation sectors. Vice-Prime Minister Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga stated that these decisions are aimed at ensuring basic services while striving for development amidst ongoing challenges.
