Sunday’s Olympic Events to Watch

The second day of competitions at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games is set to be exciting, featuring various sports throughout the day. Here’s a detailed schedule of the events you won’t want to miss on Sunday.

Snowboarding Events

Snowboarding kicks off the day’s competitions at 3:00 AM. The first event is the women’s parallel giant slalom, where Aurélie Moisan from Quebec will face Zuzana Maderova from the Czech Republic. Fellow Canadian Kaylie Buck will compete against Gloria Kotnik from Slovenia.

In the men’s category, competitors include Arnaud Gaudet against Gian Casanova from Switzerland, and Ben Heldman facing China’s Ye Bi. Finals are anticipated to begin around 8:25 AM.

Alpine Skiing

The women’s downhill race will start at 5:30 AM, featuring athletes Valérie Grenier and Cassidy Gray from Quebec. Notably, Lindsey Vonn from the USA will also participate despite a recent knee injury.

Skiing Events

The 10km Skiathlon, combining classic and freestyle techniques, starts at 6:30 AM. Canada’s Antoine Cyr from Gatineau is a strong medal contender, joined by Xavier McKeever, Rémi Drolet, and Maximilian Hollman from the Canadian team.

Biathlon

The mixed relay 4×6 km event is scheduled for 8:05 AM. Team Canada, consisting of Adam Runnalls, Jasper Fleming, Pascale Paradis, and Nadia Moser, will compete in this challenging event.

Curling Competitions

At 8:35 AM, the curling duo of Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman will strive for a comeback after three consecutive losses. They face Sweden in this match and will compete again against South Korea later at 1:05 PM.

Speed Skating

Men’s 5000m speed skating begins at 10:00 AM. Canadian Ted-Jan Bloemen will be in action alongside France’s Timothy Loubineaud.

Ice Hockey

There’s a day off for the Canadian women’s ice hockey team. However, France will compete against Sweden at 10:40 AM, with the Czech Republic facing Finland at 3:10 PM.

The women’s big air event is set for 1:30 PM. Canadian Laurie Blouin, who secured gold at the 2021 Championships in Aspen, is a key athlete to watch. Juliette Pelchat from Whistler will also be competing.

Figure Skating

Figure skating concludes team events on Sunday, starting at 1:30 PM. Canada currently ranks fourth. Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud will open with the pairs free program. Madeline Schizas will represent Canada in the women’s free program, followed by Stephen Gogolev in the men’s event, aiming to secure a podium finish for Canada.
