Autopsy Reveals Renee Good’s Death Caused by Headshot

An autopsy requested by the family of Renee Good revealed that she died from multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal shot to her head. The incident occurred during a confrontation with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026.
Details of the Autopsy Findings
According to statements from Good’s attorneys, the autopsy identified three significant gunshot wounds:
- Headshot: A bullet entered the left side of Good’s head near her temple and exited on the right side.
- Forearm Injury: Good suffered a gunshot wound to her left forearm.
- Chest Injury: Another bullet struck her right breast but did not hit major organs.
The attorneys asserted that neither the forearm nor chest injuries were immediately life-threatening. However, the headshot was deemed fatal. A graze wound was also reported.
Incident Overview
Renee Good, 37, was shot while seated in her SUV during a police encounter in a residential area of Minneapolis. The shooting followed the deployment of numerous immigration officers to the Twin Cities. Witness cellphone footage captured her partner, who was outside the vehicle, confronting the ICE officer, identified as Jonathan Ross.
During the altercation, multiple gunshots were fired before Good’s vehicle collided with a parked car. Authorities confirmed that Ross was treated for injuries but had not specified their nature.
Responses and Reactions
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem controversially labeled Good as a “domestic terrorist,” asserting that Ross acted in self-defense. Noem did not provide supporting evidence for her claims.
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed Good did not comply with law enforcement directives, which officials stated led to the tragedy. Local officials, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have criticized federal immigration actions in their community.
Legal and Investigative Proceedings
The FBI is currently investigating the shooting, while state officials have reported being prohibited from participating in the inquiry. Good’s attorneys continue to gather evidence, asserting that it will bolster their case regarding the circumstances of her death.
The findings of the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office regarding Good’s death are still awaited by the family and their legal representatives.
