Monaco CEO Admits Pogba Injury Plan Failing
Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, has admitted that the club’s strategy concerning Paul Pogba is failing. Since his arrival last summer, the 32-year-old midfielder has only managed to play 30 minutes. This limited gameplay stems from a series of injuries and a recent doping ban.
Pogba’s Ongoing Struggles
Pogba, who has previously played for elite clubs such as Manchester United and Juventus, joined Monaco on a two-year deal. His aim was to revitalize a career that has faced numerous setbacks due to injuries and disciplinary issues. Since signing, Pogba has been bothered by a left calf injury, which has sidelined him for over a month.
Injury Timeline and Debut
He finally made his Monaco debut at the end of November, which was his first competitive match in two years after being banned for doping. Despite the excitement of joining Monaco, the club currently finds itself struggling in Ligue 1, sitting in ninth place, a significant 17 points behind leaders Lens.
- Contract with Monaco: Two years
- Matches Played: 30 minutes since joining
- Injury: Left calf injury
- Debut Date: November 2023
- Current League Standing: 9th place in Ligue 1
Future Prospects
In an effort to navigate this situation, Scuro expressed hope that Pogba will soon return to competitive form. Nevertheless, he hinted at potential contractual clauses that could lead to a reassessment of Pogba’s time at Monaco during the summer. “If it does not work, we can sit down in the summer to discuss the next steps,” Scuro stated.
Pogba’s Legacy and World Cup Aspirations
Pogba’s illustrious career includes being the world’s most expensive player in 2016, when he transferred from Juventus to Manchester United for €105 million. He has represented France in 91 matches, scoring 11 goals and playing a vital role in their 2018 World Cup win. However, a lingering knee injury excluded him from the 2022 World Cup. Despite the odds, Pogba hopes to rejoin the national team in time for this year’s World Cup scheduled in North America.
As he works to overcome these latest challenges, Pogba remains committed to making a significant return in his career and contributing to Monaco’s performance during the season.
