YouTube Introduces Option to Filter Shorts from Search Results

YouTube is enhancing its search functionality by allowing users to filter results based on video type. This change aims to simplify the process of finding either Shorts or longform content. Previously, searches returned a combination of both formats, which frustrated viewers wanting a specific type of video.

YouTube’s New Search Filters: An Overview

The new search update introduces distinct options for finding content:

  • Videos: This option exclusively displays longform videos.
  • Shorts: This filter shows only Shorts, streamlining the viewing experience.

Alongside these changes, YouTube is also removing certain filters. The “Upload Date – Last Hour” and “Sort by Rating” features will no longer be available as they did not meet user expectations.

Retained and Updated Filters

YouTube continues to provide several relevant filters:

  • Upload Date Filters: Options such as “Today,” “This Week,” “This Month,” and “This Year” will remain.
  • Popularity Filter: This replaces the previous “View Count” sorting. The new filter assesses a video’s view metrics and user engagement.

YouTube has also revamped its sorting menu, now titled “Prioritize.” This change aims to enhance the utility of the search function, allowing for a more tailored viewing experience.

Conclusion

With these updates, YouTube is focused on improving how viewers interact with its vast library. The ability to filter Shorts from search results should provide a more organized and user-friendly experience for all users.
