Demidov’s Ex-Teammate Joins Zharovsky: Canadiens Update

In recent years, the Montreal Canadiens have shown a strong interest in acquiring Russian talent. This trend is exemplified by the success of Ivan Demidov in adapting to the North American game. Demidov previously played for SKA St. Petersburg alongside veteran NHL player Evgeny Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov praised Demidov, highlighting his ability to create scoring opportunities from unexpected situations.

This past season, Kuznetsov parted ways with SKA and sought to continue his career in the NHL. However, after signing with Magnitogorsk Metallurg in the KHL, he faced challenges, accumulating only nine points in 15 games. Frustrated with limited playing time, he agreed to be placed on waivers to explore new opportunities.

Kuznetsov’s New Opportunity

Recently, Salavat Yulaev, the KHL team of Canadiens prospect Alexander Zharovsky, claimed Kuznetsov from waivers. Currently, Salavat Yulaev is fighting to secure a playoff spot in the KHL, with a total of 38 points, just two points ahead of rivals Barys and Sibir.

Zharovsky’s Impressive Performance

  • In 33 games, Alexander Zharovsky leads Salavat Yulaev with 29 points.
  • He was honored as the December Rookie of the Month.
  • Zharovsky also made the All-Rookie Team of the Month.

Salavat Yulaev will face Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk today, but Kuznetsov was seen in the stands, waiting for his debut. His offensive skill set could provide much-needed support for Zharovsky, who may benefit from playing alongside the experienced forward.

Zharovsky is under contract with Salavat Yulaev until May 31, 2027, but his outstanding performance raises questions about the possibility of an earlier move to the NHL. The decision ultimately lies with his current team, but many are eager to see how his dynamic with Kuznetsov will develop.

As the Canadiens continue to scout promising players, the significance of adding both Demidov and Zharovsky to their roster could shape the future of the franchise.
