A missing dog in New Jersey has been safely rescued, thanks to the efforts of a specialized search and rescue team utilizing drone technology. The lost dog, named Abbie, embarked on an astonishing journey of over 25 miles along the New Jersey Turnpike.
Background on Abbie’s Escape
Abbie, a Golden Retriever mix, was among several dogs being transported from a shelter in South Carolina. They were headed for adoption in New England. The incident occurred during a stop at the Joyce Kilmer rest area, where the dogs were let out for a bathroom break. This is when Abbie took off.
Utilizing Advanced Technology for Rescue
Final Victory Animal Rescue, which was responsible for Abbie’s transportation, quickly mobilized to locate her. The team worked tirelessly to coordinate rescue efforts, even though they were located over 10 hours away from the search area. Fortunately, Abbie had an AirTag, allowing her GPS location to be tracked.
Successful Rescue Operation
Abbie was successfully located by the USAR Drone Team, who employed thermal imaging technology from their unmanned drone to find her. This marked Abbie as the team’s 123rd dog rescue. The operation was further supported by Woodbridge Animal Control and the Woodbridge Police Department. A well-planned strategy was put in place to prevent Abbie from returning toward the busy Turnpike.
Abbie’s Condition and Ongoing Care
Currently, Abbie is receiving medical attention at Tri-State Veterinary Hospital in Woodbridge. She has suffered a hip injury and some road rash. Veterinary professionals are evaluating her condition for additional care.
