Ethan Hawke Reveals Tulsa Filming Experience on ‘The Late Show’

Actor Ethan Hawke recently shared a light-hearted moment from his time filming in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During his appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” he discussed the experience of working on the FX series “The Lowdown.”

Hawke revealed that he relocated his family to Tulsa for the duration of the project. He wanted his children to attend local public schools while he worked on the show. Interestingly, his daughter, Maya Hawke, who stars in “Stranger Things,” quickly became the school’s celebrity.

In a humorous exchange, Hawke recounted a visit to the set where director Sterlin Harjo asked his kids about the challenges of having a famous father. They responded jokingly, saying, “It’s hard having a famous sister. Nobody cares about my dad. My sister’s picture is in lockers everywhere.” This anecdote drew laughter from the audience.

About “The Lowdown”

“The Lowdown” is an FX drama series created and executive-produced by Sterlin Harjo, featuring Ethan Hawke in a leading role. The project was initially announced in February 2024 under the title “The Sensitive Kind.” It was officially renamed “The Lowdown” in May 2025.

Filming for the pilot took place in Oklahoma during April and May 2024. The series received an order for multiple episodes from FX in October 2024. Principal photography began in February 2025, showcasing various locations across Green Country.
