Man Utd Manager Ruben Amorim Reserves Comment on Transfer Talk

Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, recently addressed the ongoing discussions related to transfer activities. Following a match against Newcastle, Amorim reiterated his stance on the transfer budget during a press conference. He expressed that he would prefer not to elaborate further on the issue.

Transfer Talks and Managerial Challenges

After the defeat by Newcastle, the Portuguese manager noted he occasionally disagrees with the club regarding player targets. Specifically, he mentioned the signing of Belgium’s Senne Lammens on transfer deadline day, which differed from his preferred choice, Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa.

Current Performance and Fan Confidence

United’s recent performance has raised concerns among supporters. The team has struggled at home, including:

  • A defeat against ten-man Everton
  • Draws with West Ham and Bournemouth, both of whom are on lengthy winless streaks
  • A disappointing match against Wolves

Currently, Manchester United is placed sixth in the standings, just three points clear of Fulham, which sits in twelfth. The club aims for European qualification this season, and Amorim’s position may be in jeopardy if this goal is not met.

Injury and Squad Changes

In terms of squad adjustments, United has recently recalled midfielder Toby Collyer from a loan at West Brom, but he remains sidelined due to a calf injury sustained on November 26. The hierarchy hinted they might allow new players in January, depending on potential outgoing loans for forward Joshua Zirkzee and midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. However, Amorim confirmed no players have expressed a desire to leave.

Transfer Market Focus

Manchester United is keen to bolster its squad, particularly in the midfield department. They have shown interest in:

  • Adam Wharton
  • Elliot Anderson
  • Carlos Baleba from Brighton

Additionally, former Wolves captain Ruben Neves and ex-academy player James Garner, who has been performing well since his transfer to Everton, have also been linked to the club. Despite earlier indications of potential signings, Amorim stated that there are currently no plans for new arrivals, emphasizing that no discussions to modify the squad are ongoing at this time.
