Off-Duty ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Armed Man in Northridge

An off-duty ICE agent was involved in a deadly shooting in Northridge, Los Angeles. The incident took place at an apartment complex on Roscoe Boulevard around 10:45 p.m. on a Wednesday evening, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Details of the Incident

According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officer was in his apartment when he heard multiple gunshots. These shots sounded as though they were getting closer. Taking his ICE-authorized firearm, he exited his apartment to assess the situation.

Confrontation with the Suspect

Upon rounding a corner of the apartment complex, the officer encountered a male suspect armed with what appeared to be a long rifle. The officer identified himself as law enforcement; however, the suspect pointed his weapon at him and refused to comply.

The situation escalated as the agent discharged his firearm in response. Following this, the suspect fired at least three rounds back at the agent.

Aftermath of the Shooting

  • The agent retreated to his apartment to retrieve body armor.
  • He then contacted the police to report the incident.
  • When LAPD officers arrived, they found the suspect deceased at the scene.
