Johnathan was located on January 2, just two miles from his home in Jasper, Alabama. His body was unfortunately found alongside his dog, Buck, who survived the ordeal.

Timeline of Events

  • December 31: Johnathan was last seen around 11:30 a.m.
  • January 2: Authorities confirmed Johnathan’s body was found.

Sheriff Nick Smith of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office announced the findings during a press conference later that day. He described Johnathan as an adventurous boy who loved the outdoors. The sheriff encouraged community members to check their properties for any signs of the missing child.

Community and Law Enforcement Response

The search involved both local authorities and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Over 160 volunteers contributed their time and efforts, covering approximately 500 acres in hopes of finding the boy. Sheriff Smith acknowledged the difficult weather conditions, with temperatures dropping into the 30s after a relatively mild December 31.

Concerns Regarding Family

In a troubling turn of events, explosives were discovered inside the Boley residence after Johnathan went missing. His father has been arrested on charges related to unlawful manufacturing of a destructive device, and he faces two counts of chemical endangerment of a child.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency had previously shared that Johnathan’s last known activity included playing outside with his brother and their dog before he wandered away. He was wearing a yellow Mickey Mouse shirt, black pants, and Paw Patrol shoes at the time of his disappearance.

As investigations continue, the community remains in mourning for the loss of a young life that brought joy to so many. Sheriff Smith expressed the collective heartbreak felt throughout the community, calling Johnathan a typical adventurous child who embodied the spirit of outdoor exploration.
