Anticipation Builds for 2026 Rose Parade Celebration

The anticipation for the 2026 Rose Parade is building as Pasadena gears up for its annual New Year’s Day celebration. This year marks the 137th edition of the parade, embracing the theme “The Magic in Teamwork.” Laker legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson will serve as the Grand Marshal for the festivities, which kick off at 8 a.m. on January 1.
Weather Forecast and Historical Context
Unexpectedly, rain is forecasted for the parade, a rarity that hasn’t occurred in 20 years. If it rains, it will be the first time since 2006 that the parade faces precipitation. Before that, a rainy parade day hadn’t been seen in 50 years.
Race, Route, and Safety Measures
The parade route spans 5.5 miles, starting at Green Street and Orange Grove Boulevard. Participants will proceed north on Orange Grove at a leisurely pace of 2.5 miles per hour, turning east onto Colorado Boulevard and finally ending at Sierra Madre Boulevard.
City officials will begin to close off sections of this route at 6 p.m. on December 31, lasting until 2 p.m. on January 1. Roads affected include:
- Colorado Boulevard from Orange Grove Boulevard to Sierra Madre Boulevard
- Sierra Madre Boulevard to Paloma Street
To navigate the area during the parade, consider using Walnut Street or the 210 Freeway for east-west travel north of Colorado, and Del Mar Boulevard or Cordova Street south of Colorado.
Viewing Opportunities
Grandstand tickets are available, ranging from $80 to $130. Those with tickets should arrive by 6 a.m. to secure seating by 7 a.m. A clear bags policy is in effect for all attendees. On December 31, you may set up curbside seating for free, beginning at noon, with camping allowed overnight until the parade.
Parking and Transportation Information
Parking on the route is prohibited, but reserved spots can be purchased from local vendors. Public transportation options include:
- Del Mar Station (0.3 miles from the parade route)
- Memorial Park Station (0.2 miles from the parade route)
- Lake Station (0.4 miles from the parade route)
- Allen Station (0.4 miles from the parade route)
Metro will offer free fares on New Year’s Eve for buses, trains, and bikes from 4 a.m. on December 31 to 3 a.m. on January 1.
Accessible Viewing and Additional Information
Three designated viewing areas are available for individuals with disabilities and their companions. Guests are encouraged to bring their own seating as no chairs are provided.
The Rose Bowl Game
Following the parade, the Rose Bowl game kicks off at 1 p.m. on January 1 at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Ticket prices start at $130.90. General parking for the event is available for $69, but advance purchase is recommended to secure a spot.
For further information on the parade, attendees can download the official Rose Parade app or contact the visitor hotline for any inquiries.
This year’s Rose Parade promises to deliver an unforgettable experience despite the rare weather challenge. Plan ahead to enjoy the magic.
