Enhanced Drunk Driving Task Force Active Through New Year’s Holiday Week

Law enforcement agencies are enhancing their efforts to combat impaired driving during the New Year’s holiday week. From December 31 to January 4, the Natrona County Driving Under the Influence Task Force will be active in patrolling for drunk drivers. This initiative aims to ensure safer roadways in Wyoming as people celebrate the arrival of the new year.
Drunk Driving Statistics in Wyoming
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) reported alarming statistics regarding drunk driving. Over 10,000 fatalities occur nationally each year due to drunk drivers, equating to one death every 42 minutes. Wyoming frequently ranks among the top five states for both drunk driving incidents and alcohol-related crashes in relation to its number of licensed drivers.
Safety Tips for New Year’s Celebrations
To promote safe celebrations, individuals are encouraged to adopt proactive measures. Here are some essential tips to avoid drunk driving:
- Never drink and drive, regardless of the amount of alcohol consumed.
- Designate a sober driver or opt for public transportation, cabs, or rideshare services to get home.
- Utilize the Natrona County Safe Ride program by calling (307) 266-7233.
- If you notice someone about to drive while impaired, take their keys and ensure they get home safely.
Get Involved and Report Drunk Driving
WYDOT emphasizes the importance of community involvement in curbing drunk driving. If you encounter a suspected drunk driver, please report them immediately by dialing 9-1-1.
By following these guidelines and remaining vigilant, we can all contribute to a safer environment on the roads during the New Year holiday and beyond.
