Rémi Drolet has earned a spot in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, marking his second appearance on the Olympic stage. This February, he will represent Canada in cross-country skiing. After competing in the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Drolet looks forward to the upcoming games with a renewed focus and improved preparations.
Rémi Drolet: A Dual Star in Skiing and Academics
A Harvard graduate, Drolet excelled in both athletics and academics. During his tenure at Harvard, he achieved numerous accolades, including:
- Men’s 20-kilometer Classic champion at the 2023 NCAA Championships
- Three-time NCAA Championships qualifier
- Three-time All-American
- 2020 Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Rookie of the Year
Drolet majored in physics and math, earning recognition as a two-time CSC Academic All-America honoree. His commitment to academic excellence matched his dedication to skiing.
Returning to the Olympics
Drolet’s Olympic journey began in 2022 when he made history as the first cross-country skier from Harvard to compete since 1984. He played a vital role in helping the Canadian team secure an 11th-place finish in the 4×10 Relay. Individually, he participated in several events, placing 33rd in the 15-kilometer Classic and 35th in the 50-kilometer Mass Start race.
This upcoming Olympics presents a contrasting environment compared to the COVID-impacted Beijing Games. Drolet expressed excitement about experiencing a more welcoming atmosphere this time. “I am excited to have games where it’s a little more normal,” he stated.
Supportive Training Environment
During his time at Harvard, Drolet faced unique challenges training in an urban setting. The cross-country ski team often practiced in Weston, Massachusetts, utilizing man-made snow during winter. Summers provided opportunities for roller-skiing and endurance training, fostering a strong community that Drolet credits for his success.
Having graduated, Drolet now trains full-time in Stratton, Vermont. He emphasizes the importance of summer training for building endurance, allowing him to focus on improved performance leading into the 2026 Winter Games.
A Family Affair
Rémi’s sister, Jasmine Drolet, will also compete for Team Canada in cross-country skiing. Both siblings earned their places on the Olympic roster during the recent trials, showcasing the strength of the Drolet family in winter sports.
Upcoming Olympic Events
The men’s cross-country ski events at the Milano Cortina Games are scheduled from February 8-21, 2026, at the Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium in Val di Fiemme. Rémi Drolet aims to not only represent Canada but to enhance his already impressive skiing career.
With his strong background and renewed resolve, Drolet is eager to demonstrate his growth as an athlete. “I’m really proud to be representing my community and my country and to have the opportunity to go and see how fast I can race,” he said.
