Manitoba Faces Weather Warnings as Blizzard Forces School Closures

Southern Manitoba is experiencing severe weather conditions, prompting school closures across the region. Following a blizzard that hit the area, Environment Canada has issued several weather warnings, including blowing snow advisories and snowfall alerts.

School Closures Due to Blizzard

Numerous school divisions have decided to cancel classes for the day. The divisions impacted include:

  • Beautiful Plains
  • Border Land
  • Fort La Bosse
  • Garden Valley
  • Lakeshore
  • Lord Selkirk
  • Prairie Rose
  • Red River
  • Southwest Horizon
  • Sunrise
  • Turtle Mountain

Western Brandon School Division has also canceled classes at Alexander, O’Kelly, and Spring Valley schools. However, other schools are open, and attendance remains optional based on parental discretion and travel conditions.

Franco-Manitoban School Division Impact

The Franco-Manitoban School Division (DSFM) has announced the cancellation of classes in several schools, including:

  • Aurèle-Lemoine
  • Gabrielle-Roy
  • Jours de Plaine
  • Lagimodière
  • Pointe des Chênes
  • Réal-Bérard
  • Ste. Agathe
  • St. George
  • St. Jean-Baptiste
  • Saint-Joachim
  • Saint-Lazare

Even though some DSFM schools are open, bus services are suspended for the following locations:

  • La Source (Shilo)
  • Régionale Notre-Dame (Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes)
  • École Gilbert-Rosset (St. Claude)
  • École Noël-Ritchot (St. Norbert)

Post-Blizzard Adjustments

Most campuses of RRC Polytech remain operational, with the exception of the Winkler location. Additionally, language training classes at the Steinbach and Arborg centres are being conducted online exclusively.

As Manitoba continues to deal with challenging weather, residents are urged to stay informed about ongoing weather conditions and school statuses.
