Tarantino’s ‘Ripoff’ Critique: Josh Hutcherson Responds on ‘Hunter Games’

Josh Hutcherson, known for his role in the “Hunger Games” franchise, has commented on Quentin Tarantino’s recent criticism. Tarantino claimed that Suzanne Collins’ original “Hunger Games” series was a “ripoff” of the Japanese novel and film “Battle Royale.” This assertion was made during an appearance on “The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast” in November.
Hutcherson’s Response to Tarantino
At the premiere of his new horror film “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” Hutcherson addressed Tarantino’s remarks. The actor acknowledged the similarity in themes between the two works, stating, “There are similar themes, for sure. But, you know, everyone borrows from everyone.”
Tarantino’s Comments
Tarantino, a notable admirer of “Battle Royale,” expressed strong opinions on the subject. He placed “Battle Royale” 12th on his list of favorite 21st-century films. The director stated, “I do not understand how the Japanese writer didn’t sue Suzanne Collins for every thing she owns.” He criticized book critics for not recognizing the connection between the two stories when reviewing Collins’ work.
