Tim Skipper Appointed as Cal Poly’s Head Football Coach

Cal Poly has welcomed Tim Skipper as its new head football coach. This appointment was confirmed by Athletic Director Carter Henderson, who announced that Skipper will become the 19th head coach in the history of the program.
Tim Skipper’s Coaching Background
Tim Skipper brings extensive experience to Cal Poly, totaling 25 years in collegiate coaching. His most recent position was as interim head coach at UCLA, where he guided the team through a challenging season. After starting the season 0-3, Skipper led UCLA to a 3-6 record, achieving significant victories over notable teams like Penn State, Michigan State, and Maryland.
Achievements at UCLA and Fresno State
Before his role at UCLA, Skipper served as interim head coach at Fresno State in 2024. Under his leadership, Fresno State finished with a 6-7 record and earned a bowl appearance. His previous stint as acting head coach in the 2023 bowl game saw the Bulldogs secure a commanding 37-10 win.
Significant Milestones
- Skipper received the Mountain West “Head Coach of the Week” honor three times, the most in the conference.
- During his return to Fresno State in 2022, the Bulldogs had an impressive turnaround, finishing with a nine-game winning streak.
- The team achieved their first Mountain West Championship and a victory in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl.
Skipper’s defensive strategies greatly contributed to Fresno State’s success, as their defense ranked second in the Mountain West for scoring defense, allowing just 19.4 points per game.
