Angels Sign Manoah to One-Year Deal

Right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah has signed a one-year contract worth $1.95 million with the Los Angeles Angels. This agreement was reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The deal comes after Manoah was non-tendered by the Atlanta Braves last month, securing him a fully guaranteed contract with the Angels.
Alek Manoah’s Career Overview
At 27 years old, Manoah was once a Cy Young Award contender with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2022, he posted an impressive record of 16 wins and 7 losses, along with a stellar 2.24 ERA. However, his performance sharply declined in subsequent seasons.
Recent Performance Struggles
In 2023, Manoah had a rough start, finishing with a 1-7 record and a 6.36 ERA, which led to his demotion to rookie league. After returning to the Blue Jays, he managed a record of 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA over seven starts in July. Unfortunately, he did not play again at any level after being sent to Triple-A in August.
- 2022 Record: 16 wins, 7 losses, 2.24 ERA
- 2023 Start: 1 win, 7 losses, 6.36 ERA
- July 2023: 2 wins, 2 losses, 4.91 ERA in seven starts
Injury and Recovery
In 2024, Manoah’s struggles continued as he recorded a 1-2 record with a 3.70 ERA across five starts. This season ended prematurely due to elbow surgery. He later participated in rehabilitation with Triple-A Buffalo, where he posted a 1-1 record and a 2.97 ERA in seven starts. Notably, six of the 27 hits he allowed during this time were home runs.
With the signing of Alek Manoah, the Los Angeles Angels are hoping to revitalize the talented pitcher’s career as he transitions to a new chapter. This deal marks a significant opportunity for Manoah to regain his form and contribute effectively to the team in the upcoming season.
