Kohli Set to Compete in Upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, Confirms DDCA

Virat Kohli, the prominent Indian cricketer, is set to compete in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, confirmed by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). The tournament is scheduled to commence on December 24 in Ahmedabad. Kohli, who currently plays only one format for India, will represent Delhi due to a new mandate from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Kohli’s Participation Details

DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma stated that Kohli is likely to participate in several matches. However, his full commitment to the tournament remains uncertain, depending on his schedule with the Indian team. Kohli’s involvement will also be influenced by the outcomes of his matches for India.

Kohli’s Recent Performance

Kohli recently achieved a significant milestone by scoring his 52nd One Day International (ODI) century against South Africa in Ranchi, where he made 135 runs, hitting seven sixes. This performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

Dubai Hazare Trophy Schedule

  • Start Date: December 24
  • Location: Ahmedabad
  • Delhi’s Matches: Seven league games until January 8

After the last ODI in the current series on December 6 in Visakhapatnam, Kohli will have ample time before the Vijay Hazare Trophy begins. However, his participation in all seven league matches remains in doubt, especially with the ODI series against New Zealand starting shortly after.

Delhi’s Matches Location

  • Five league matches in Alur, near Bengaluru
  • Two matches at M Chinnaswamy Stadium

Kohli has not played 50-over cricket for Delhi since September 2013. During the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy, he represented Delhi alongside teams India Blue and India Red. His last appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy dates back to the 2009-10 season when he led Delhi.

Current Domestic Cricket Scenario

In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Delhi has secured victories in two out of four matches under the captaincy of Nitish Rana. As the Vijay Hazare Trophy approaches, the focus will be on how Kohli integrates with the team and performs on the field.
