Santa Claus Parade Floats Prepare Along Notre Dame Today

The annual Sudbury Santa Claus Parade is set to dazzle residents with its festive spirit today. The event begins with a spectacular fireworks display at 5:15 p.m., followed by the procession of floats starting at 5:30 p.m.
Details of the Santa Claus Parade
This year, the parade features a new, extended route through downtown Sudbury. The floats will roll out from Notre Dame Avenue, heading west on Ste. Anne Road. The route continues south on Elgin, east on Elm, south on Durham, east on Larch, north on Lisgar, and finally back east on Elm. The parade concludes at Ste-Anne Road.
Grand Marshal and Entertainment
Franco-Ontarian music icon Chuck Labelle leads the parade as this year’s musical grand marshal. He expressed his excitement about the role, emphasizing the responsibility of setting a joyful pace for the festivities.

A total of 68 floats are registered for this year’s celebration, showcasing creative displays based on the theme of Christmas movies. Parade Chair Brian Howe highlighted the importance of visibility for the floats, ensuring that families and children have ample opportunity to view the event.
Community Activities and Logistics
Before the parade, families can enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and cookies provided by the YMCA of Northeast Ontario at 140 Durham St. from 2-4 p.m. To facilitate safety and viewing, road closures will start at 3 p.m., prohibiting parking along the parade route.
