Philadelphia is set to host a record-breaking weekend with the Philadelphia Marathon events. Over 36,000 runners are expected to participate across the various races, which has created excitement and anticipation within the local community.
Philadelphia Marathon Weekend Celebration of Greek Traditions
The marathon festivities will commence early, with the half-marathon starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the 8k race at 11 a.m. The full marathon is scheduled for Sunday. This year, the event introduces a unique element: golden olive wreaths, crafted in Marathon, Greece, which will be awarded to the champions.

Race director Kathleen Titus highlighted the achievement of having a waitlist for the event, which has allowed for a higher registration than previous years. This year’s turnout will include participants from 60 countries.

Road Closures and Accessibility

Among the runners is Alexander Sung, who expressed nostalgia for his hometown of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. “This is my first time. I was born across the river, so I’m super excited to run here,” he mentioned.
Holiday Festivities Alongside Marathon Events
While in town, participants can also enjoy the newly opened Christmas Village in LOVE Park and City Hall. Featuring approximately 130 vendors, this holiday market will be accessible after the marathon events begin.
