RMT Declares Strike on CrossCountry Rail Network

The RMT has announced a strike affecting the CrossCountry rail network next month. This decision follows a prolonged failure by the company to address critical issues such as pay, staffing shortages, and unmet commitments. The union has made multiple attempts to reach a resolution but has faced consistent setbacks.

Strike Dates and Key Issues

CrossCountry has not fulfilled agreements regarding overtime payments and wage discrepancies across various job grades. The lack of meaningful progress has compelled RMT members to proceed with strike action on the following dates:

  • Saturday, December 6
  • Saturday, December 13
  • Saturday, December 20
  • Saturday, December 27

Statement from RMT General Secretary

Eddie Dempsey, the general secretary of the RMT, voiced his concerns regarding the ongoing issues. He stated, “CrossCountry has not dealt with the core issues in this dispute and has come back with a proposal that is worse than what was already on the table.”

Dempsey highlighted that RMT members face unresolved staffing shortages, unfair pay outcomes, and promises that have not been kept. He further emphasized the necessity for the company to present a credible proposal that honors previous commitments and ensures fair treatment for all employees.

The upcoming strike underlines the ongoing frustration among RMT members and their commitment to advocating for appropriate working conditions. As the situation develops, the union encourages CrossCountry to engage in meaningful negotiations.
