Miss Universe Crowned: Mexican Contestant Triumphs Over Host’s Criticism

In a notable event held in Nonthaburi, Thailand, Fatima Bosch from Mexico clinched the title of Miss Universe 2025. Her victory follows a tumultuous series of events, including public criticism from the competition’s host, Nawat Itsaragrisil. This criticism not only stirred controversy but also drew attention from high-ranking officials in Mexico, including President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Miss Universe 2025 Overview
Over 120 contestants from around the globe gathered to compete for the Miss Universe 2025 title. The event was marked by significant disruptions, including allegations of a rigged election, which the organizers denied. During the ceremony, Bosch received her crown and sash while several contestants—including those from Thailand, Venezuela, the Philippines, and Ivory Coast—were named runners-up.
Controversy Surrounding Fatima Bosch
In early November, criticism arose when Itsaragrisil labeled Bosch an “idiot” during a viral pre-event meeting. He berated her for failing to post a promotional video about Thailand on her social media accounts. Angered by the remarks, the 25-year-old contestant left the room, followed by several peers. Responding to the media, Bosch stated, “What your director did is disrespectful; he called me an idiot.” She emphasized the importance of women voicing their opinions against such aggressions.
After her victory, she expressed a desire to be remembered as a Miss Universe who was unafraid to be herself, aiming to redefine the ideals associated with the title.
Reactions and Celebrations in Mexico
In Mexico, Bosch’s altercation with Itsaragrisil sparked widespread reactions across media and social platforms. President Claudia Sheinbaum commended her, stating that her response was an example for women to stand against injustices. Following their initial statement, Itsaragrisil later offered his apologies.
Back in her hometown, Villahermosa, thousands gathered in a local stadium to watch Bosch’s crowning live. The atmosphere was electric, with chants of “Mexico! Mexico!” and fireworks lighting up the evening sky.
Noteworthy Incidents During the Pageant
The Miss Universe 2025 pageant was also filled with unexpected incidents. Two jury members withdrew from the panel, with French composer Omar Harfouch accusing the competition of manipulation through a secret vote, claims which were disputed by the organizers. Meanwhile, former French football player Claude Makélélé left the jury for unspecified personal reasons.
Additionally, contestant Danielle Latimer from Great Britain suffered a fall during the national costume segment, while Gabrielle Henry from Jamaica required hospitalization after accidentally falling off the stage during the evening gown presentation.
Future of the Miss Universe Pageant
Looking ahead, the next Miss Universe competition is scheduled to take place in 2026 in Puerto Rico, as announced at the conclusion of the event.
