Verdone Becomes Rome’s Mayor for a Day on His Birthday, Says Gualtieri

On November 17, 2025, renowned actor Carlo Verdone celebrated his 75th birthday by serving as Rome’s Mayor for a Day. This special event took place in collaboration with current Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, marking a unique moment in the city’s history.
Carlo Verdone’s Memorable Day as Mayor
The day began early at the Palazzo Senatorio, where Verdone attended a city council meeting in the “Sala delle Bandiere”. During this gathering, critical issues were discussed, including the activation of a dental and social psychology service in Tor Bella Monaca and support measures for local bookstores.
- Dental and Psychology Services: New services in Tor Bella Monaca will provide free dental and psychological care to economically disadvantaged residents.
- Support for Bookstores: Bookstores will gain the opportunity to utilize public spaces for cultural activities, assisting them during a challenging economic period.
Inauguration of New Community Facilities
After the initial meeting, Verdone and Gualtieri visited Villa Gordiani, inaugurating a new playground for local children. This facility aims to enhance the quality of life for families in the V Municipio.
During the inauguration, Gualtieri expressed, “It is a pleasure for me to be today’s assistant mayor, and I appreciate Carlo for taking on this role.” He emphasized the importance of children’s right to play, noting further similar initiatives are planned.
Reflections on Rome and Community
Verdone shared heartfelt thoughts about his love for Rome and the enriching experiences he has gained from its communities. He remarked on encountering generosity and strength in the city’s outskirts and mentioned a moving moment with children singing “Happy Birthday” upon his arrival at Villa Gordiani.
He reflected, “I have always sought to do my best, and the people I met today give me inspiration.” Verdone’s deep connection to the city and its residents is evident, as he recalled the significance of local interactions during his upbringing.
A Day to Remember
As the day concluded with Verdone signing the city’s Golden Book, he stated, “Thank you for letting me find so much humanity and poetry in the peripheries. It has been an unforgettable day.” This signature reignited a memory from 2000 when actor Alberto Sordi also served as mayor for a day.
In the evening, Verdone participated in a special assembly session in the Aula Giulio Cesare, where he delivered remarks reflecting on his day and experiences. The day wrapped up with Verdone returning the mayoral sash to Gualtieri, who presented him with the Lupa Capitolina, Rome’s highest honor.
Carlo Verdone’s temporary tenure as the Mayor of Rome not only celebrated his birthday but also highlighted the resilience and warmth of the city’s communities, leaving an inspiring legacy for future leaders.
